These are, without a doubt, the most romantic couple tattoos in the world. But that doesn’t mean they’re all hearts and kissy faces. No! Many of our favorite couple tattoos are funny, weird, and unique – just like the couples who got them.
Couple tattoos are a huge sign of commitment: they are promises made from ink and flesh. They bind two people together in fun, creative, and permanent ways. Since many couples break up, a couple tattoo is an even BIGGER commitment than a normal tattoo. After all, are you really sure about this person? You don’t want to end up with a tattoo like this one, where the guy had to cross out his girlfriend’s name and put another girl. Hilarious!
20. ‘Till Death Do Us Part
A lifetime promise sealed in clever cranium caricatures, these his and hers wedding tattoos really stand out in a fun yet stylish fashion. The skulls are perfectly placed on the arm, away from the wrist to avoid any breaking up of the ink over time. Lining and shading of this bonehead pair compliment each-other well and the sudden burst of red emanating from the skulls really make this newlywed inscribe pop out of the skin. These morbid delicately voodoo designs are a match made in life and a vow to take to the grave. Simplicity wins out in such beautifully highlighted work, a forever stamp of ‘I love you always’ captured nicely in bold skull perspective.
19. Lock and Key Tattoos
Symbolism is key and love is locked in with this subtle tattoo work creating an elegant pair of complimentary designs. Ladies choice is a well crafted heart shaped padlock, the keeper of secrets and vows and the link between charmed lovers. And for the man of honor a sophisticated key that screams perfect line work and represents the only path to accessing his bride’s affection and the principle for unlatching and releasing their mutual love. While the concept is basic these well executed tattoos hold and unlock a lover’s bond and keep the key to their happily ever after.
18. Getting Your Partner’s Heartbeat
Eat your heart-beat out, simple, bold and live wired arm tattoos! What better way to seal a deal than inking your partner’s cardio record into skin. This matching pair of heart racing brands features intrepid, bold, black and chunky lining which really makes them eye catching and super stylish. The placement of each partner’s permanent heart rate memorandum is quite perfect, with no other artwork in sight they really stand out on the skin and from the crowd. I love this concept, while straightforward, it’s clean, smooth, crisp and sleek and it captures lover’s bond in a technical yet elegant way.
17. Symbol Tattoos
Om symbols to capture the spiritual bond of star-crossed love. These tattoos are well executed, classy showpieces that are very well placed on both accounts. This emblem of Hindu and Buddhist origins holds meaning of the soul within, ultimate reality, the entirety of the universe, truth and divine knowledge. That being said it translates perfectly as a symbol of a loving, trusting, all encompassing relationship captured forever in a crisp professional tattoo to be proud of. The lining work is absolutely flawless and the saturated black filling equally amazing. These Om symbols while different in size and placement choice match in sublime fashion and offer a much more subtle way to express undying love and a bond of the souls that cannot be broken.
16. Love Birds
These lovebirds are a novel, cute and fun approach to matching devotion tattoos. An avian King and Queen of the songbird variety to give permanent voice to newlywed vows has perfect thick black outlining with nice thin line accents. They have a very whimsical feel and ooze bubbly personality. The pair are in perfect placement to read unity and for the bright burst of red heart to match up when held together. Lovebirds stay together for life and this artwork is so well done it will last a lifetime looking pretty on beloved skin.
15. Still Going Strong Tattoos
Candy colored, bright, chunky sweet hearts to boldly show off still going strong and ‘still into you’. This is an inspired, fun and novel tattoo concept with great line work and dazzling complimentary colors. Green and purple are a match made in heaven and bounce off each other like the Joker on a sugar overdose. The coloring work on this pair is impeccable with perfect highlighting and fading of hue to skin tone. Overall very cool tattoos to symbolize a loving couple’s still together mantra in an unconventional style and in a super sweet, upbeat and full of life approach.
14. King and Queen Tattoos
Royalty reigns in these lover’s tattoos done in a clean graffiti style with masculine and feminine crown accents. King and Queen are the ideal titles for two souls in love. Like the fairy tales of old, this pair of tattoos are a classic composition with very nice placement to match up on the body. Each is unique with ‘Queen’ in stylized cursive complete with a delicate crown atop and ‘King’ in a bolder, darker tone with a busier feel thanks to the shaded outline around the whole piece and his crown filled in black for a more macho vibe. I particularly like the graffiti style of these and the contrast in the elegance of ‘Queen’ with the thicker lettering in ‘King’ really compliment each other well.
13. Infinity Love Tattoos
To Infinity…and beyond. The infinity design is a great one for the symbol of eternal love. As the infinity token is a never ending line, so too is love a never ending commitment and these tattoos portray this perfectly with elegance and grace. I like the way in which ‘love’ is interlaced into the infinity marking and I think the placement of these tattoos couldn’t be more perfect. Being located down the lower arm and onto the side of the wrist really works well with this composition and the fact that the two tattoos are slightly different is unique and gives the two parties their own special twist on the ink. Infinity symbol is a great one to go for in a tattoo design or to be incorporated into another composition as it’s meaning has untold applications. It is an excellent symbol of love, however the possibilities for infinity as a symbol are literally beyond endless….
12. Micky and Minnie Couple Tattoos
The classics of Disney! The oldest mascots to bring back the nostalgia of youth and symbolize a classic coupling of perfect counterparts. Mickey and Minnie – a symbol of partnership and undying love since the 1920’s. While these mice may be small in size, they are giants when it comes to personality. These tattoos are very nice work with shading and highlighting in all the right places. I really like the way the two characters are seated on a box that appears to rise out from the skin adding an extra dimension to the art. If love is on your mind and you want some character symbolism, what better a direction to go than to ink in the world’s most famous mice.
11. Zelda Tattoos
Pixelated Zelda tattoos for the true gamer at heart. Brightly colorful and bursting with fun, this pair of tattoos will be a big hit with any classic arcade gamers and especially Zelda fanatics. They are very cleanly done and really do look like pixels brought to life on skin canvas. Zelda and Link represent warriors in love and thus make a great matching pair and an entertaining tattoo concept. The lining and coloring work is both bold and beautiful on this couple making for an instantly recognizable theme. I love the added hearts atop each character, they look awesome, they illustrate love and life and they add a little more video game madness to the overall feel of the tattoos.
10. Happy Place Tattoos
Drift away to a desert island oasis with these bright, simple palm tree and sunset tattoos. Basic line work and blocks of bold color make this matching pair both pretty and fun. We all want our own desert island paradise sometimes, or maybe all the time so a nice way to say ‘I love you’ would be to invite one’s partner to join you on that island, and presto – a tattoo to say just that. I have to say, the best part of this ink is the wonderful orange to yellow transition within the setting sun, it really gives a tropical feel to this piece. Sometimes simplicity rules the day and this tattoo is an eye catching way to say; together in paradise. Happy place found.
9. Pharaoh Tattoos
Ancient Egypt; fascinating, I’m already sold. I love the shape, style and composition of these tattoos. An interesting and unique way to celebrate King and Queen with a blast from the past in some truly intricate detail. The line work, fine detail and shading is amazing and the placement equally stunning as both tattoos are displayed when the wearers hold hands. This is a really special way to show off both the ink and the partnership of two true lovers. Taking a leaf from the Pharaohs book has worked out magnificently in this artwork. Both tattoos shine royally on their own but when placed together in this manner they really stand out in perfect noble form.
8. Morse Code ‘I Love You’ Tattoos
This tattoo is about much more than just dots and dashes, it is a sophisticated and stylish way to say ‘I love you’ without words at all. Morse code was once the communication breakthrough of the ages, but nowadays much of the dots an dashes have become lost in translation. The only electrical current operating here was that of the tattooists machine, but what isn’t lost for some is the beauty in the simplicity of the code itself. And that’s what makes this ink stand out. The tattoo is expertly done with every dash and dot absolutely flawlessly created, and while it may be a meaningless series of markings for many, for the wearers the Morse message is perfectly loud and clear.
7. Pizza Slice Love
Wow. This tattoo instantly makes me smile. Is there a better way to express love than the division of a heart shaped pizza pie? The artwork here is most definitely extra cheesy but it’s expertly pulled off with perfectly wavy pizza lines and deep robust coloring which really makes it scream for attention. Now the wearers of this saucy ink will never be complete without their partner’s piece of the pie and love will be forevermore immortalized in one topping heaven…..they do say the way to the heart is through the stomach after all.
6. Robot Proposal
A very comical, fun and happy tattoo set that captures all the excitement, nerves and a little of the awkwardness of the marriage proposal. This is a lighthearted and colorful design, each tattoo perfectly placed to match up to it’s counterpart. Both robots have been done with expert lining and shading work and they really pop out of the skin in three dimensions. Bold blue and pink set each robot apart by gender and I adore all the little details like the flower on her dress and the lightening bolt on his chest. A classic take on a classic theme and the addition of a pixelated red heart to go with each robot really sets this design off. A.I., love and ink combined at its finest.
5. Wedding Vows
A simple, elegant design with a heartfelt message. The lettering on these tattoos is just gorgeous and it really seems like the most appropriate way to sum up wedding vows in condensed form. The placement of the words is spot on, not too high on the wrist so as to avoid too much break-up over time, and the fine like work is impeccable. These wedding vows will forever be with the pair, and I really like the phrasing here. Two very personal statements, put simply, and beautifully worked into the skin. Love and Respect – the fundamentals for any rock solid relationship, very well said and very well tattooed.
Faithful. A very simple yet very well composed tattoo design. This work captures the essence of love and marriage itself, not just in the choice of word but also in the placement of the lettering, as separately from each other the letters mean very little but together they symbolize everything. This element is further enhanced by the way in which the letters form ‘faithful’ whereby the couple must hold hands in a certain way to reveal the sentiment. All of this makes a very basic tattoo design so very complex in meaning and in principle.
3. Initial Wedding Bands Tattoos
I love this concept, the tattoo in place of a wedding ring. It is something that is becoming ever more popular; tattooing initials or symbols onto the ring finger instead of the traditional diamond and gold wedding bands. These tattoos look great. They are sophisticated and stylized, and the ink wizard has done a superb job of the line work in this instance. Nothing quite says “I do” like the permanent branding of your partners initials onto your body. One can lose or take off a ring but there’s no misplacing a tattoo.
2. I Do Tattoos
This is another very pretty take on wedding vows turned tattoo art. A very clean, in-complex piece that gets straight to the point. It is a great tattoo set, in that the lining is smooth and crisp and each matches the other perfectly. What makes it personal is the design of the heart which has the infinity symbol incorporated into it, promise of a life long commitment. I really like the purity and delicacy of this work, it tells a big story without saying very much at all and it shows a lifetime pledge, put simply and with ultimate meaning.
1. Couple’s Song Tattoo
This nursery rhyme tattoo design is really quite beautiful in the way that it goes together. The pair must embrace naked to reveal the poem’s beginning, the ultimate level of closeness for the tattoo to make full sense which is so true to life as a couple must be extremely close and intimately trusting of one another for the relationship to make sense. Art mirrors life and the artist here has done a wonderful job creating fine joyous lettering that when read puts a smile on one’s face and has you humming the rest of the song. When skies are grey, this tattoo would make any couple happy, I love it!
