[wp_ad_camp_2] [wp_ad_camp_1]Barbadian pop princess Rihanna is hot. Rihanna Tattoos are hot. We think that that is not a disrespectful or sexist thing to say. Hell yeah she’s hot as hell! Love or hate the music – we will refrain from commenting there – there’s something about the girl herself that stirs the, um, soul. Who can forget that Shakira video that she was in recently. Oh man. But what makes her so hot? Is it the Rihanna accent? That sexy Caribbean Island lilt reminiscent of reggae and rum? Yes, damn right it is. That helps of course. But what else? Well outside of the smoking body and that perfect face, it’s gotta be the Rihanna tattoos right? That’s gotta be obvious as you know this is a tattoo website right? Why would we be talking about Rihanna at all if we didn’t want to talk about her tats. She has 24 so far and here we’re going to run you through them and by the time we’re done you’ll know Rhianna’s tattoos just as much as you know you’re own.
Isis Under the Breasts
What a place to start! Here’s the largest single tattoo of Rihanna’s. Isis was the ancient Egyptian goddess of love, motherhood, magic, and fertility. Rihanna got this tattoo in London to commemorate her grandmother, who had passed away shortly beforehand. Check out more chest tattoos here:
1988. Lotsa stuff happened back then. It was the first year that CDs outsold vinyl (“What are CDs?” What’s vinyl?” Ask your dad). That song “Don’t Worry Be Happy” was out and being played like everywhere. Canadian athlete Ben Johnson got busted big time for stuffing himself full of steroids at the Seoul Olympics just after smashing the 100m world record. I was at high school. And also, making me feel old as hell, Rihanna was born in Barbados. Just to prove that fact, she got the year inked around her ankle. Nice Pumas, too.
Cast your attention here to the cross under the wrist, on the same side as the palm of her pretty hand. Don’t worry – we’ll get to the over-the-wrist tat later. For now, concentrate on the cross. Rihanna is pretty religious. She has a couple of crosses on her as well as some religious and spiritual sayings in various languages and calligraphy styles. Again, we’ll discover these down the road. For now, enjoy the cross! Rihanna tattoos.
And this is the topside of the wrist cross we were talking about just now. Originally, Rihanna had a Maori tattoo etched onto her hand in New Zealand – done the traditional hardcore Maori way with a hammer and chisel. Did we mention that Rihanna is one tough chick? Anyway, you can see the original Maori design as a series of arrows on her fingers and and the back of her hand, looking fainter than the henna-style design. Turns out that apparently, for reasons best known to herself, Rihanna wasn’t too happy with the Maori tat and so ended up covering it, or complementing it, with the Indian-style henna design that you see above.
Going back to the ancient Egyptian theme explored earlier with Rihanna’s under-the-breast Isis tattoo, we see here that she also has the image of Queen Nefertiti right next to the, er, side boob. This one is, in this humble scribe’s opinion, the coolest and sexiest of all Rihanna’s tattoos. Do you agree? Or do you need to check out a load more before making a decision? Oh okay. Let’s carry on deeper into Rihanna Tatoo Heaven….
Falcon or Gun? Or Both?
Aaaand guess what, Rihanna tattooos lovers? We’re still way way back in the day, in ancient Egypt. It’s evidently a place that Rihanna feels comfortable in. We find here more Egyptian influence with this cool piece on her ankle. An Egyptian falcon based on a 2,300 odd year-old ceramic falcon that currently resides in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. There’s another school of thought that says this is really a “secret” image of a handgun. We couldn’t possibly speculate either way.
Sexy Hip Lover Tattoo
It’s a dirty job but someone’s gotta do it. I mean what could be worse than scouring Rihanna’s body for tattoos? Here we have a sneaky, cheeky one just on her hip, but below the tan-line if you know what I mean. Just to show how dedicated we are to this job, here’s another image of this tattoo, just for you:
Now that’s what I’m sayin! Turns out that this tattoo is written in Tibetan and means, simply, “lover”. Mmm.
Shhh… it’s a Tiny Collarbone Cross!
There’s a couple of tattoos that we can talk about here. There’s five in view, but we’ll concentrate on just two right now. First, check out that tiny red cross on Rihanna’s collarbone. This was done in NYC back in 2012, and believe it or not, caused some controversy, with some saying that it was a “satanic symbol” or a sign of “Godlessness” or some such nonsense. Get it together people! It’s just a small red cross! Rihanna has never made a secret out of being a God-fearing gal.
Now it’s time for tattoo #2 in this picture. The “Shhh…” that you see on Rihanna’s finger. This is cool on a number of levels. Firstly, it’s as cute as a kitten and secondly it shows that she’s got a sense of humor.
Thug Life Tupac Tribute
This is Rihanna’s only white ink tattoo, and shows her gangsta side (apart from the guns eslewhere, of course!). Bad girl. The image here only shows her left hand knuckles – “Life” – but the right hand knuckles state the only other word that precedes “life” in the hip-hop world, and that word is, of course, “thug”. Thug Life was the name of hip hop legend Tupac Shakur’s first group and the phrase represents coming from nothing, hustling what you can and making it. Rihanna could see something in that, I guess, and also wanted to kick some respect to the man Tupac himself.
Rebelle Fleur – She’s a Star – Rihanna Tattoos
Here’s another double whammy Rihanna tattoos pic. Sometimes, y’know, especially with the small ones, you can’t separate them into separate photos so you might as well describe them together. Okay it’s cheating, but come on. Rihanna looks radiant here doesn’t she? Check out her neck. The words “Rebelle Fleur” inked across the side. That’s French for Rebel Flower which sums this chick up pretty well, doncha think? For you fragrance fans (and yes, we believe that you can be a tattoo enthusiast AND a fan of perfumes and scents), Rihanna launched “Reb’l Fleur” in 2011, a year after the original ink. Now where did she get that idea from?
Now cast your eyes north of Rihanna’s neck, up past that big ol’ hoop earring, to the top of the ear itself. Have a peek inside. You see that star? That’s what we’re talking about. She got this one done, just of the cuff, in NYC in 2007, apparently. No planning, no nothing. Just happened to be walking past a tattoo place in The Village and went inside. Came out with that cute little star inside her ear. Rock on.
“Always a Lesson, Never a Failure”
This is a cool tattoo because it proves absolutely, without doubt, that it was done for Rihanna herself, and for no-one else. In effect it’s really for her eyes only, whenever she looks into a mirror. How so? Well it’s written backwards. Check it out – have a closer look! All backwards. The message itself, “Always a lesson, never a failure”, kinda speaks for itself as a life guide, and obviously is something that Rihanna wishes to see as a daily reminder. Check out these other meaningful tattoos.
A Real Gun (this time)
Here we are getting gangsta again! This is one of Rihanna’s most badass little tattoos. This little gun was controversial when she got it – some thought that she was projecting the wrong image, whatever that is. We say phooey to that! There’s something sexy about a hot chick with a gun tattoo, and according to Rihanna’s sources, the whole thing was about power and strength. Who are we to disagree?
Tribal Dragon Claw
This tribal tat was done in New Zealand, in the Maori style – her second attempt at a Maori hand tattoo, and obviously one that pleased her more than the other aforementioned one on the other hand. Done in the same, agonizing, traditional way – with a mallet and chisel – this tattoo represents love and strength to the Maori people.
Time for mofre Rihanna Tattoos! This is one of Rihanna’s most visible, oldest, and most famous tattoos. We know it’s one of the oldest because there are plenty of photos of Rihanna with this tattoo but no others nearby. Anyway, what does it mean? Clearly it’s a date in Roman numerals. XI (11) – IV (4) – LXXXVI (86). 11/4/86. Okay so that either works out as November 4th 1986 or April 11th 1986. Turns out that her best friend Melissa’s birthday is on November 4th, and so there the “mystery” is solved. Phew!
Finger Love Tattoo
Alongside the “Shhh…” finger tattoo that Rihanna sports, she also has another cute little one in the same style saying “Love”. Not sure if there’s anything too deep and meaningful in this one other than just the girl having a bit of fun and wanting a cute piece of ink.
Only Rihanna could make a skull and crossbone – normally the tattoo of choice of sailors, convicts, and pirates – a sweet, sexy thing. This tiny, “Hello Kitty” style skull and crossbones on her sweet, delicate ankle does just that.
The Famous Stars…
Ahh the famous Rihanna tattoo stars. We say “famous” because to Rihanna-watchers, these stars running from the nape of her neck, inside her hair line, all the way down her back, are probably her most well known pieces of ink. Originally consisting of just three stars right at the top of her neck, matching her ex-boyfriend Chris Brown’s (yeah that guy) stars that HE has behind his ear, once they broke up Rihanna kept adding more stars to get that sexy image that we see today.
Arabic Rib Tattoo
Another shout out to religion, here. We told you that Rihanna is a woman of faith. We’ve spoken of the crosses that she has tattooed, and to double down on that, the rib tattoo that we find here translates as “Freedom in God” in Arabic. Looks cool as well.
Sanskrit Hip Tattoo
I know I know. There’s a lot – and I mean a LOT – to take in here. But focus, please. Concentrate. We’re here for the hip. The hand and the under-the-breast areas have already been covered, so concentrate on the hip, please. See that line running down her side and across the bikini line? That’s actually a prayer in Sanskrit, the ancient, sacred language of Hinduism. So we have yet another nod to religion and faith here from Rihanna. There was a snag, though. This prayer was MEANT to read “forgiveness, honesty, suppression and control” (wait, what “Suppression”??). That’s what Rihanna wanted. Unfortunately, what it ACTUALLY says is “long suffering, truthfulness, self-restraint, inward calm, fear and fearlessness”. Say what now? I wonder how much forgiveness and control Rihanna showed when she found out about this boo boo? Whatever, I’m sure she’s chilled about it and it still looks like a cool, sexy tat. Of course.
Pisces Zodiac Sign
This one is obvious. Rihanna was born on February 20th, 1988, which makes her a Pisces. If you know about astrology, then you know that Pisces people are… are… well never mind. If you believe in this stuff then I guess you know what Pisces is, and if you don’t I guess you don’t care. The interesting thing about this tattoo was that she got it in Japan from a Brazilian tattooist. It’s cute in its own way.
Musical Notes Foot Tattoo
And so we end with Rhianna’s very first tattoo, a treble clef and music note on her foot. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out why Rhianna, a musician and singer, would feel inspired to have a musical theme going on somewhere. What’s more interesting is that all the tattoos on her body that we’ve checked out in this post stemmed from this one.
And there you have it. A thoroughly pleasant tour of Rhianna’s body! We know it’s all about the tattoos and the art but you gotta admit that there could be worse canvasses. And there’s still plenty of space on her for more ink in the future so watch this space!
