Top 20 Dog Tattoos of All-Time – Tattoos of the Day
“Bow wow wow yippie yo yippie yay…” sung Snoop Dogg way back in the day. He had the right idea. Dogs are cool. Man’s best friend and I really believe that. So what about dog tattoos? Well they’re cool as well, obviously. What better tribute can one make to his best friend than either calling yourself after him like Snoop did (I know, I know – he’s Snoop Lion now – whatever) and writing some catchy West Coast rap tunes about him, OR… getting him tattooed for all time onto your body? Seeing as I’m a terrible rapper, I’m going for the ink. I’m not the only one. Plenty of people have gone for dog tattoos. Check out some of the best ones right here.
Husky Dog Tattoos
Let’s start off realistic. This is a wonderful tattoo that surely represents a fitting tribute to a noble dog. The amount of work that has gone into this totally conveys the meaning of this piece. People love their dogs, and this tattoo basically shows a fantastic example of this fact. Right over the heart, too. Wonderful.
Faithful Friend On Shoulder
What I dig about this tattoo, outside of the artwork itself, is the fact that this beautiful dog tattoo has one brown eye and one blue eye. So cool to totally remember that when getting this done.
Paw Print
Paw print dog tattoos are really cute. There’s something sweet about a trail of paw prints running down a beautiful woman’s back. But I digress. Here’s a badass paw print, showing the actual maker of the print in it. I think that cool is a better word than cute in this instance, but that’s just me.
Love…
You know why I love this little silhouette tattoo? The profile looks exactly like a little dog that I nce had, called Machito. Machito disappeared one tragic day, and we miss him dearly. This tattoo, even though it isn’t on me, might as well be. What a cool little message of love this one is. Heartwarming.
Cutie
Still staying on the silhouette theme – or more accurately, simple little line dogs – this is a cool one, too. The red bow sets it off and shows the character that this lady’s dog must have had (or still has…). Beautiful dog tattoos!
Glasses
This is great, primarily because the subject of the tattoo on this chick’s leg is, obviously, still of this world. Still running and kicking and wagging his tail. For some reason, I have it in my head that most doggie tattoos are in memory of those furry friends who have departed for that Great Kennel in the Sky, so it’s uplifting to see actual proof that sometimes, they are here and with us. Even if they are wearing glasses.
Tongue Dog Tattoos
First thing that jumps out of me here is this furry dude’s big pink tongue. All the better for licking you with. And then I check out the watercolor design, and delve deeper into the reflections in the dog’s eyes and I actually start to marvel and realize exactly what a fantastic tattoo this really is. It could be of a slug or a cockroach and still be a great tattoo. But it’s not. It’s of a dog, and that’s why it’s right here.
Multicolored Dog Tattoos
Yes yes we know that dogs aren’t really this color unless you’re on drugs, but if they were, then this would be a great realistic tattoo. In all seriousness, the electric color scheme here makes this a super cool unique piece of art, one to be proud of for sure.
Watercolor Cutie
This is another dog that looks pretty much exactly like one of my dogs that I have now. But enough of my personal s**t, check out how how sweet the artwork is here. Love the graffiti-style lines around the ears and the watercolor… well… colors. I personally think think that this is one of the best tattoos that I’ve ever seen, doggy… um… style (for want of a better phrase) or not. A gorgeous piece of ink.
Face-Painted Dog
If only dogs looked like this. Wait. What? No way – dogs looking amazing as they are, all furry and sweet and all – the opposite of some cross between a kids drawing and a genius piece of art by Picasso. But a tattoo that looks like this… now that’s a different matter. How many ways can one say unique?
Designer Dog
This is a great tattoo for someone’s calf. Great imagery: Check. Cool colors: Check. A dog that somehow, some way, looks kinda like Batman? Triple check. This is one of those tattoos where words can do it no justice. Just check it out and admire it for yourself.
Another Designer Dog
Staying on the same kind of theme as the last dog, here’s a smaller and bluer version. Well… not a “version” at all… it’s completely different from Designer Dog #1 except for the fact that it’s artistic and simply amazing. Loving the blues, the greens and the pinks here.
Half Sleeve Dog Tattoos
Another awesome piece of art. Just black lines this time, like a cool-assed sketch. I have a feeling that maybe, just maybe, this might not be finished. Or at least, at some point, the dude might add to it in someway. It’s not my tattoo, so not for me to say, but I think this one is perfect as is, and is probably the most badass dog tattoo (as opposed to cute, realistic, arty, etc) in this collection so far.
That Doleful Expression
Ever heard of the expression “puppy dog eyes”? Well this one nails it to a tee. Just look at the expression on this cuties face. The words on this piece say “my Heart my Soul”. Well they got that one damn right.
One Man & His Pit Bull
Pretty much all of the dog tattoos that we’ve seen today have been faces and heads, which is all good. A dog’s face is the cutest thing about him. But sometimes the whole dog’s body shows off the pride and dignity of the animal. Like this. Standing tall and proud on his masters side. Great color scheme in the background too.
Tennis Ball
Every good dog loves a ball and every good dog owner who gets a tattoo of said dog includes that ball in his tribute tattoo. The actual tattoo itself is nice – especially the orange background – but I dunno, that little tennis ball at the bottom makes the whole thing incredibly moving. Like the guy knew his dog best with that ball. That dog was never happier than playing “fetch” with his human. Beautiful.
Old English Sheepdog Dog Tattoos
Not much to say about this one except talk about how cute it is. Simple is the watchword here, yet it still picks up the character of this furry friend. You know what does it? It’s that pink tongue and little button nose that capture that character.
Simple Sausage Dog
Again, simple simplicity. A line drawing of a dachshund on the wrist. A pure expression of love. What other dog is so easy to draw as simply as this?
Chihuahua Tattoos
There could be no series of dog tattoo pics to talk about with a cartoon chihuahua in a sombrero at a bullfight. Stereotypes be dammed, there’s nothing more Mexican than that, for for that fact we salute this tattoo!
The End…
And so we come to the end of our brief tour of dog tattoos. We’ve seen realism, art and overall devotion to Man’s Best Friend. A dog – not just any dog, but your dog – will be up there with one of the most meaningful, precious tattoos that you will ever have the privilege to have. If a dog means enough to you to ink onto your body, then you will have had experience of one of the best relationships ever and no-one can take that away. So with that said, enjoy the final tattoo above. A dog and a cat this time. Purrfect!
